Villagers back Adani’s thermal power project
In a spirited public hearing, residents of Bhagalpur’s Pirpainti block have shown enthusiastic approval for the Adani Group’s plan to build a 2400MW ultra super critical thermal power plant. Community leaders and locals voiced their optimism, highlighting the potential for economic growth, job opportunities, and overall development in Bihar.

Bhagalpur: In a key development for the proposed 2400MW ultra super critical thermal power plant by the Adani Group in Pirpainti block, an environmental public hearing (EPH) was held on the block office premises under the aegis of the Bihar State Pollution Control Board on Thursday. During the hearing, representatives from various panchayats and villagers unanimously expressed support for the project, paving the way for its commencement.Participants, including local representatives and social activists, welcomed the initiative of the state and central governments, saying the ultra-modern plant with private participation would spur development in the area and create employment opportunities for residents.Speakers highlighted that the project could transform Pirpainti into an employment hub, reducing the migration of youth and workers to other states. They added that the plant would benefit the region while boosting Bihar’s industrial and economic growth.The EPH was jointly chaired by additional district magistrate (law and order) at Bhagalpur, Rakesh Ranjan, and BSPCB’s regional officer, Shambhunath Jha.R N Shukla, senior environment officer of the Adani Group, shared technical details, assuring that comprehensive environmental protection measures would be executed as per norms. Local villagers and stakeholders urged priority for environmental safeguards, employment and regional development.
