Verem temple burgled, at least 30k missing from donation boxes

Calangute: The Shree Shantadurga temple, along the busy Candolim road at Ambekhan Vaddo, Verem, was broken into by four unidentified thieves in the early hours of Wednesday. While no damage to the idols or other religious objects was reported, the thieves broke open two donation boxes and allegedly decamped with at least Rs 30,000-40,000 cash from each of the boxes. The thieves only stole currency notes, leaving behind piles of coins.This is the second burglary reported from the same temple within a year, temple committee members said.Wednesday’s robbery was recorded on CCTV cameras. Temple committee members said the four thieves entered from the kitchen by removing a window from its old wooden frame. The whole heist lasted around one hour.Temple committee members informed Saligao police who visited the spot and conducted a panchanama. A forensic team also collected evidence. According to the committee members, the four unidentified thieves had conducted a survey of the temple on Feb 9 at around 2am, which has been recorded on CCTV cameras. TNN
