UP shocker: 3 youths trick boy into giving away jewellery worth Rs 85 lakh in exchange for momos

DEORIA: Three youths allegedly gained a boy’s trust and swindled jewellery worth Rs 85 lakh from him by feeding him momo in exchange, police said on Monday.An FIR has been registered at Rampur Karkhana police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district after the boy’s father alleged that the three youths, who run a momo stall at Dumri Chauraha on the Deoria–Kasya road, fled with jewellery belonging to the family worth Rs 85 lakh, officials said.The incident came to light when the boy’s sister asked for her jewellery. On opening the almirah, the family found all the ornaments missing. When questioned, the Class 7 student told his family members that he had handed over the jewellery in exchange for momos.Rampur Karkhana SHO Devendra Kumar Singh said a case has been registered on the complaint of the boy’s father, Vimlesh Mishra, a temple priest posted in Varanasi.Police said efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused and a detailed investigation is in progress.In his complaint, Mishra alleged that the youths befriended his son, who stays in the village for his studies. He said the three offered momos to the boy, who then took jewellery from the house and handed it over to them. The complainant added that the jewellery belonged to both his son and daughter.(With agency inputs)
