Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh registered a rise of 10.2% in the number of road accidents and an increase of 12.8% in fatalities in 2025 as compared to the figures of 2024, according to the data compiled by state transport department.The number of road accidents and deaths in UP have been on the rise since 2022.UP has 10 districts which top the chart for maximum average deaths in road accidents. These districts are Bareilly, Kanpur, Agra, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Lucknow, Unnao and Hardoi.In the 2025 data, Bareilly has come up as a huge exception for reporting 245 less road accidents in 2025. In 2024, the district reported 1,196 road accidents which went down to 951, a drop of 20.5%.The district recorded 96 lesser deaths as compared to 2024, a reduction of 19.2%.In 2024, Bareilly reported 500 road accident deaths while there were 404 fatalities in 2025. At least 848 people were injured in road accidents in 2025 against 1,160 in 2024, which was less by 30%.Among other nine districts, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Agra, Mathura and Unnao recorded increase in the number of road accidents in 2025. Prayagraj reported 1,477 road accidents in which 739 people died in 2025. Aligarh recorded 1,241 road accidents claiming 603 lives, while Agra reported 1,456 road accidents and 748 deaths.Unnao registered 1,045 road accidents in 2025 in which 631 people lost their lives. In Mathura, 1,210 road accidents and 698 deaths took place.Lucknow reported 1,714 road accidents and 660 deaths in 2025, while Kanpur registered 1,458 road accidents and 607 deaths in these accidents.The data also showed increase in the number of road accidents and deaths in Mainpuri, Sitapur and Rae Bareli in 2025.
