LUCKNOW: The death toll from incessant monsoon showers across Uttar Pradesh rose to 81 over three days, with 25 more fatalities reported on Sept 27 after 56 deaths were recorded during Sept 25 and 26, according to the office of Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod.Official sources said that 62 people were injured during the three-day period, while 154 animals died due to rain-related incidents.Damage to residential property also mounted, with 2,254 houses reported damaged across the state. Crop losses were reported over at least 87 hectares.For Sept 25 and 26, Sitapur reported the highest number of fatalities at seven, followed by Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur with five deaths each.Ayodhya and Gorakhpur recorded four deaths apiece. During the same period, 46 people were injured, 107 animals perished and 1,021 houses were damaged. The state received 66.5 mm of rainfall against a normal of 7.6 mm, an excess of 775% over the 48-hour period.On Sept 27 alone, 25 deaths, 16 injuries, 47 animal deaths and damage to 1,233 houses were reported. Maharajganj recorded four fatalities, while Barabanki and Hardoi reported three deaths each.Crop damage over 87 hectares was reported from Shravasti. Uttar Pradesh received 45.1 mm of rainfall against a normal of 1.8 mm during the 24-hour period, representing a 2,506% excess.According to the source, 74 of the state’s 75 districts recorded large excess rainfall, with only Ghaziabad falling in the excess rainfall category.
