UP man held for bid to loot ATM

Chennai: A 23-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested for attempting to steal cash from an SBI ATM in Vyasarpadi by blocking the cash-dispensing slot using a metal plate that was attached with adhesive tape.The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 3pm. Engineers Sam Joshua and Kumaran of a private company had arrived at the ATM to attend to a technical complaint when they noticed that the cash-dispensing slot was blocked using a small iron plate fixed with tape.

Suspecting foul play, the engineers waited outside the ATM. A man later entered the kiosk, pretended to withdraw money, and came out. The engineers questioned him and checked the bag he was carrying. They found adhesive tape similar to the one used to block the cash slot. The engineers immediately stopped him and informed the police. Police seized 16,300 in cash and the tape used in the robbery attempt. The accused was identified as Veer Bahadur, 23, a native of UP. TNN
