Lucknow: Govt school students will now engage in experiential learning through ‘science circle’ and ‘math circle’. The two unique activities are part of a comprehensive Learning Enhancement Programme (LEP) introduced by UP govt to address learning gaps and improve grade-level competencies of students enrolled in classes VI-VIII.Under the ‘science circle’, aimed at encouraging scientific temper, students will engage in hands-on experiments, model preparation, observation-based activities, and discussions. The ‘math circle’, aimed at improving conceptual understanding and reducing mathematics anxiety, will focus on activity-based mathematics learning through puzzles, games, problem-solving exercises and practical demonstrations.Issuing directives to all basic education officers, director general of school education (DGSE) Monika Rani said that under LEP, students of classes VI-VIII will undergo systematic assessment to identify learning gaps at the beginning and end of the intervention cycle.Based on the result, there will be remedial classes to attain grade-level learning outcomes in subjects such as mathematics, science and languages. Under the programme, schools will strengthen libraries and reading corners with age-appropriate books. Regular reading sessions, book discussions and independent reading activities will be organised to improve comprehension, vocabulary and overall literacy levels among students.Rani stated that students will be supported through the ELTI grammar book and digital learning videos developed by ELTI, Prayagraj. “Teachers will use these resources to improve grammar, communication and language skills through structured classroom activities,” she said.The programme also focusses on teacher capacity-building. Rani asked officials to hold cluster-level meetings to enable teachers to share best practices, discuss learning challenges and develop innovative teaching-learning materials.Teachers, said Rani, will also maintain diaries and prepare focused lesson plans for students requiring additional support.
