Ahmedabad: A woman who left her unhappy marriage to be with the man she had romantic ties with was left in the lurch after realizing that her lover was not too eager to marry her. The woman, from the city’s east, approached the Abhayam helpline.Counsellors said the woman had been married for 16 years and has a 14-year-old son. “Her marriage was troubled, and looking for solace, she began chatting online,” a counsellor said. She connected with a man who claimed he was caring for his wife recovering from a brain haemorrhage. “Their conversations gradually turned into a romantic relationship. When her husband discovered the affair, a major confrontation followed, prompting her to leave home and move into a PG hostel,” the counsellor said. She began working as a teacher to support herself. Meanwhile, the man promised to marry her, leading her to quit her job and shift to Vadodara. But after two months with no progress from his side, the woman realized she had been misled and returned to Ahmedabad. Soon after, the man resumed pursuing her. “The woman approached us seeking help to end the relationship and reconcile with her husband,” said a counsellor. “Her lover has assured us that he will not contact her again.”
