Two migrant workers from Malda killed in Karnataka road accident

Malda: Two migrant workers from Malda district died and three others were injured when a pick-up van collided with a lorry at Vijaynagar in Karnataka on Thursday night. The deceased were Aslam Sk, 18, and Rekabat Sk, 60, both residents of Milki under English Bazaar Police Station in Malda.According to locals, the group had travelled to Karnataka about five months ago for tower installation work. Aslam was part of the initial group, while Rekabat joined about two months later. The crash occurred while they were returning from the project site. Their pick-up van was hit by a lorry coming from the opposite direction.Both were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Three other workers from Malda have been hospitalised with injuries. The bodies reached Malda on Saturday. Aslam’s sister, Sultana Khatun, said he was the family’s sole earner after their father died three years ago.Jewel Siddiki, a Malda zilla parishad member, visited the bereaved kin and said local representatives would assist them. Karnataka police have registered a case.
