Ara: When Bhojpur’s cyber cell began probing what seemed like a routine fraud complaint, they didn’t expect the trail to end at a sprawling five-storey mansion being constructed in Patna’s posh Ram Krishna Nagar area. The real shock came when investigators discovered that the property was owned by two unemployed brothers from Nawada, who were allegedly running a cyber-fraud racket and siphoning off crores from unsuspecting victims.Vikash Kumar and Vishal Kumar, who were arrested at his village Manjhwe under Hisua police station area in Nawada district on Monday, had allegedly amassed crores through cyber fraud. “The two arrested brothers claimed they were working in the share market, but our investigation found that they are unemployed. Their father, too, has no job. Despite having no legal income, they were constructing a luxurious five-storey house worth around Rs 6–7 crore in a prime locality of Patna,” said Sneh Setu, Bhojpur Cyber DSP at a press conference on Monday. The DSP said the income tax department and the EOU have been alerted to probe the duo’s financial sources and investigate how they managed to fund the construction despite having no legitimate earnings.Sharing details of the case, the DSP said that the fraud came to light during an investigation into a complaint by one Subodh Kumar of Ara, who reported that Rs3,09,922 had been fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account in Sept 2025. The fraudsters had called him posing as election officials and duped him of about Rs3.10 lakh by sending an OTP and tricking him into revealing his bank details.Explaining their modus operandi, the DSP said that during the probe it was found that the victim’s mobile number linked to his bank account had been ported to another SIM card by the accused. “Using this, the fraudsters created a UPI ID, scanned it and withdrew money from ATMs in Patna. Cyber police have obtained multiple CCTV footages showing the accused withdrawing cash from various ATMs,” he saidSo far, technical evidence of cyber fraud worth Rs60 lakh has been established against the arrested duo. Further investigation is underway, he added.
