Two constables among three arrested in gold fraud case

Lucknow: Police on Sunday arrested two Dial 112 PRV constables, along with another person, in connection with Rs 2 lakh cheating and extortion case involving a Gorakhpur man, in Ambedkarnagar.The victim was lured on the pretext of selling gold at a highly discounted rate. The FIR was lodged on Jan 23, after which a probe was conducted. One of the accused is still on the run.

Shivam Mishra, a resident of Rustampur Azad Chowk in Gorakhpur, received a WhatsApp message and phone calls by fraudsters who offered to sell 50 grams of gold for Rs 2 lakh.They called him to a pre-decided spot on Jan 13, 2026, where he was approached by Pramod Singh, who demanded the money while handing over a bag purportedly containing gold.When Shivam opened the bag, he found fake currency notes instead of gold and refused to pay.At this point, PRV constables Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav, posted in Rajesultanpur police station area, reached the spot and threatened the victim.The constables allegedly took Rs 2 lakh and threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm.The victim later gathered courage and submitted a written complaint at Rajesultanpur police station on Jan 23, stating that he could identify the accused, including the policemen.Following registration of the FIR, the investigation revealed involvement of Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav in the fraud. They were subsequently arrested along with their associate, Pramod Singh.After medical examination, all the accused were produced before the court and were remanded to judicial custody. Superintendent of police Abhijeet R Shankar ordered immediate suspension of both constables, and departmental proceedings were initiated against them.Additional superintendent of police (east) Shyam Dev confirmed that strict action was taken against the PRV personnel found involved in the crime and said that police teams were searching for one of the accused who is on the run.
