Truck hits auto carrying students for UP Board practicals, two killed

Kanpur: Two students died and three others were seriously injured when an auto carrying students to an examination centre collided with a truck in Gajner, Kanpur Dehat on Friday. Police took the truck driver into custody and admitted the injured to the district hospital.The students, all studying at Government Inter College, Raniya, had booked an auto to appear for UP Board practical exam at BMS Inter College Katethi in Gajner. The accident occurred near Kausam village. The truck could not see the auto approaching due to a blind turn and encroachments, and collided with it. The auto overturned, killing intermediate student Ritu (17) from Mahmau village and Khushi (16), native of Devpur Sadh Kanpur and residing in Shivaji Nagar, who was referred to Kanpur. Injured including Deeksha (16) from Raniya, Abhay Kumar (17) and auto driver Manoj Kumar from Kisarwal village were taken to the CHC from where they were sent to the district hospital.Angered over the incident, locals tried to block the road, however, the situation was controlled by the police.All students were going to appear for Chemistry practicals. Gajner police inspector Janardan Pratap Singh said that all the students were of UP Board. A case would be registered based on the complaint, he said.ASP Rajesh Pandey said two minor girls died on the spot in the accident. “Other injured are being treated. Further action is being taken in the matter,” he said. The truck has been seized and the driver has been taken into custody. Further action is being taken in the matter, he said.
