Tripura agency wins silver for solar-powered microgrid projects

The recognition highlights TREDA’s impact in the challenging & hilly tribal areas of NE, where traditional electricity infra is often not feasibleAgartala: The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) was awarded the silver medal for its exceptional contribution to national welfare by implementing solar-powered microgrid projects in remote tribal regions. The recognition highlights TREDA’s impact in the challenging and hilly tribal areas of northeast, where traditional electricity infrastructure is often not feasible. For years, the northeast have faced issues with irregular or non-existent power supply, impacting education, healthcare, livelihoods, and overall quality of life.Through the PM-DEVINE scheme, in collaboration with the central and state govts, TREDA has successfully brought electricity to 274 remote tribal villages using solar microgrids ranging from 2 kW to 25 kW capacity. A total of 274 microgrids, with a combined capacity of 3 MW, have been installed, benefiting 9,762 households across 247 remote tribal habitations, at a total cost of Rs 81.02 crore. Each beneficiary household has been equipped with four LED lights and a mobile charging socket, while solar-powered streetlights now illuminate village roads and public spaces. Due to the remote locations, grid extension has been nearly impossible, and even areas with partial grid access have experienced frequent power cuts, especially during monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons.
