Transport dept pushes for road safety pledge

Hyderabad: Transport department on Tuesday launched an online Road Safety Pledge website at the secretariat. The initiative was inaugurated by transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar as part of efforts to promote responsible road use across the state.The website allows citizens to take a road safety pledge online, with a focus on reaching every motorbike owner at the field level through digital certificates. As part of the programme, students would submit a road safety commitment signed along with their parents, reinforcing adherence to traffic rules within families.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the initiative aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities by leveraging the strong bond between students and parents to encourage compliance with traffic regulations. He stated that involving families would help spread awareness more effectively and ensure safer behaviour on roads.The transport department plans to take the pledge campaign to the grassroots level and turn it into a statewide movement. Officials said the initiative has been designed to promote discipline, awareness, and responsible behaviour among all road users, while emphasising that road safety was a shared responsibility of citizens, families, and institutions.
