Transferring an electricity connection in Uttar Pradesh (UP) can be done through the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) or the respective discom (distribution company) serving your area. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Steps to Transfer an Electricity Connection in UP

1. Identify Your Electricity Provider

UPPCL has five discoms based on regions:

  • PVVNL (Poorvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd) – Eastern UP

  • MVVNL (Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd) – Central UP

  • PUVVNL (Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd) – Eastern UP (some areas)

  • DVVNL (Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd) – Southern UP

  • KESCo (Kanpur Electricity Supply Company) – Kanpur

Check your bill or visit UPPCL’s website to confirm your discom.

2. Required Documents

  • Application form (available online or at the discom office)

  • Proof of Identity (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID)

  • Proof of Address (New owner’s Aadhaar, Sale Deed, Rental Agreement, etc.)

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the previous owner (if applicable)

  • Latest electricity bill (in previous owner’s name)

  • Property documents (Sale Deed, Registry, Lease Agreement)

  • Affidavit (if required)

3. Online Transfer Process

  1. Visit the official portal of your discom (e.g., PVVNLMVVNL, etc.).

  2. Look for “Change of Ownership” or “Name Transfer” option.

  3. Fill the form, upload documents, and pay the fee (if applicable).

  4. Submit and note the reference number for tracking.

4. Offline Transfer Process

  1. Visit the nearest discom office or subdivision office.

  2. Collect and fill the Name Transfer Application Form.

  3. Attach required documents and submit.

  4. Pay the transfer fee (varies based on connection type).

  5. Get an acknowledgment receipt.

5. Verification & Approval

  • An official may inspect the premises.

  • Once verified, the name will be updated in the electricity bill (usually within 7-15 days).

6. Fees & Charges

  • No dues certificate (NDC) from the previous owner may be required.

  • Transfer fee varies (approx. ₹100–500) depending on the connection type.

Important Notes

✔ Ensure all pending bills are cleared before transfer.
✔ For rented properties, a rent agreement + landlord NOC is needed.
✔ If the previous owner is unavailable, legal heir documents may be required.
