Ahmedabad: Recognizing their distinguished and meritorious service, the Union home ministry on Sunday announced police service medals for 16 officers and personnel of the Gujarat Police Force on the occasion of Republic Day. The awards will be conferred by President Droupadi Murmu.According to the official list, two senior IPS officers from the Gujarat cadre were selected for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), one of the highest honours in policing. They are Nipuna Torawane, additional director general of police, who is currently serving as additional chief secretary in the state home department, and Shailesh Raghuvanshi, deputy commissioner of intelligence, Ahmedabad region. Both officers were recognised for their long and exceptional service record, leadership roles, and contribution to policing and internal security.The remaining 14 awardees will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) for their sustained dedication to public duty across diverse fields. The recipients include senior officers, middle-ranking officials, and personnel from the ranks, reflecting contributions at both supervisory and operational levels. Those selected for the MSM come from a wide range of Gujarat Police units, including the intelligence wing, State Monitoring Cell, prisons department, motor transport wing, coastal security, State Reserve Police Force, and city police forces in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot. Their work spans areas such as intelligence gathering, crime prevention, prison administration, coastal surveillance, and maintenance of law and order.V Chandrasekhar on honours listV Chandrasekhar, a 2000 batch Gujarat cadre IPS officer, who is currently joint director in CBI, was among the recipients of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, according to the announcement on the eve of Republic Day. Chandrasekhar supervised several high-profile cases, including the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.
