CUDDALORE: A 64-year-old farmer, who was doused with petrol and set on fire by his daughter-in-law’s lover in a village near Panruti in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday night, died on Saturday night despite medical attention. The victim, Rajendiran from Maligampattu village under Kadampuliyur police limits, had suffered 70% burn injuries on his neck, back, and lower hip and was undergoing treatment at Cuddalore Government General Hospital.
The attack unfolded when three men in a van intercepted Rajendiran, who was riding pillion on two-wheeler on friend Kandan’s two-wheeler. Two assailants got down, poured petrol on Rajendiran and set him on fire after chasing Kandan away. Police arrested the prime accused, D Manikandan, 39, of Panruti, who has been in a relationship with Rajendiran’s daughter-in-law, B Jayapriya,28. Also arrested were Manikandan’s aide G Gubendiran,29, of Panruti, van driver M Parthiban,28, of Chithiraichavadi and Jayapriya.
