Dibrugarh: In a security measure ahead of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, the Tinsukia district administration has declared the entire district a ‘no drone flying zone’ for three consecutive days, effective from Jan 25 to Jan 27.The prohibitory order, issued by district magistrate Sumit Sattawan on Saturday, aims to ensure foolproof security arrangements during the Republic Day festivities and prevent any potential security threats posed by unauthorised aerial surveillance or activities. The ban covers all types of unmanned aerial vehicles, including drones, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS).According to the official order, any individual or organisation intending to operate drones or similar aerial devices during this period must obtain prior permission from both the police department and the district administration. Flying such devices without proper authorisation will be considered a serious violation of the prohibitory order and will attract legal action under relevant provisions of law.“The decision to declare Tinsukia a ‘no drone flying zone’ has been taken after careful consideration of security requirements for the Republic Day celebrations. We have issued strict instructions to all law enforcement agencies in the district to maintain vigilance and monitor any unauthorised drone activities. Anyone found violating this order will face immediate legal action. I appeal to all citizens to cooperate with the administration during this period and refrain from operating any unmanned aerial vehicles without explicit permission,” the DM said.The move comes as part of exhaustive security arrangements being implemented across Assam ahead of Republic Day. With chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma scheduled to unfurl the national flag in Dibrugarh, and similar celebrations planned across all districts, security agencies have been placed on high alert throughout the state.In recent years, drones have increasingly been recognised as potential security risks during high-profile events, as they can be misused for surveillance, disruption, or even carrying prohibited items.The district administration has requested citizens to report any suspicious drone activity to the nearest police station or contact the district control room immediately.
