Ticketless travel: BMTC collects Rs 6.5L in fines in Dec

Bengaluru: Line-checking officials of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) imposed penalties totalling Rs 6.3 lakh on passengers travelling without tickets on city buses in Dec. During the month, inspection squads checked over 18,400 bus trips and detected 2,801 passengers without valid tickets. Cases were also registered against 1,748 conductors for various lapses.Officials additionally fined 250 male passengers for occupying seats reserved for women, collecting Rs 25,000 under sections 177 and 94 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. In all, BMTC collected Rs 6,59,865 in fines from 3,051 passengers across the city during Dec 2025. In a press release, BMTC urged passengers to carry valid tickets, day passes or monthly passes while travelling on its buses to avoid penalties.
