Three men arrested for posing as cops, extorting money

Prayagraj: Kaushambi police on Wednesday arrested three fraudsters who allegedly posed as police officials and extorted Rs 50,000 from a Saini resident.Cops also seized 6 mobiles, 11 Aadhaar cards, 3 ATM cards and 8 SIM cards from the possession of the trio– Dipendra Yadav, Pradeep Kumar and Ajay Kumar, all residents of Jhansi. SP (Kaushambi) Rajesh Kumar said a Saini resident on Dec 24 lodged a complaint with Saini police station, accusing a man who posed as a station officer and extorted Rs 50,000 on the pretext of recovering a missing girl of his family. Following the incident, an FIR under sections 318(4) and 319(2) of BNS was registered. After the arrest, the accused told police that they used to download FIRs through the UPCOP app and target cases related to missing men or women. They then searched for details of the victim and made efforts to contact their family members through different sources. The miscreants then made calls to family members, extorted money, and also misguided them. tnn
