Surat: The brother of a 26-year-old Surat banker filed an FIR with Jalalpore police in Navsari on Wednesday, stating that he got abusive and threatening messages on his Instagram account. The accused threatened him and told him to tell his brother to break off his engagement with his fiancee. The accused claimed to have been in a relationship with the fiancee for the last five years. According to the FIR, the complainant’s 26-year-old younger brother works as a credit card manager for a private bank in Surat. On Nov 11, 2025, when he was home in Navsari, he got messages on Instagram from an unknown account bearing the name of his brother’s fiancee. The person said he was the woman’s boyfriend and told him to tell his brother to break off the engagement. The accused also said he was in a relationship with the woman for five years. The accused threatened to come to the wedding and disturb it by showing pictures of the woman and him to the guests. When the complainant asked the person his name, he did not respond. On Nov 26, the person changed the Instagram ID and sent the complainant a message stating that he would send messages to all the relatives about the woman’s relationship with him. On Dec 9, the person again contacted the complainant and threatened him, telling him to get his brother’s engagement to the woman broken off. The accused told him that he left his wife and children for the woman, but she later left him. He said he would not spare her. As the accused continued to send messages, the complainant contacted the cyber crime helpline and filed a complaint on Dec 10. Based on that, an FIR was filed by Jalalpore police on Wednesday, and police inspector D D Ladumore began an investigation.
