Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (THRC) has sought a report from the Director General of Police (DGP) by February 20, 2026 regarding a complaint alleging hate and provocative remarks against a police officer. The complaint was filed by Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, vice-chairman and president of the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS).A delegation led by Qureshi, comprising Congress leaders and Muslim religious scholars, alleged that BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy made unprovoked, hate-filled and provocative remarks targeting the religion of Goush Alam, IPS, Karimnagar police commissioner. The complaint has been registered as HRC No. 329/2026. After examining the petition, judicial member Shivadi Praveena directed the DGP to submit a report on the matter, the public relations officer of THRC said.Qureshi alleged that the BRS MLA’s remarks against the police commissioner included comments pertaining to religious conversions. “Such comments were unwarranted, baseless and inappropriate. Targeting a serving IPS officer on religious grounds undermines the dignity of the civil services and affects communal harmony in Telangana,” he told reporters. He also raised the issue on social media, seeking clarification from BRS working president KT Rama Rao and the party leadership. While Kaushik Reddy later issued an apology, Qureshi claimed that KTR did not respond to his query and instead blocked him on social media.Qureshi questioned how a party that claims to follow secular values could remain silent and fail to take any action against its legislator. He requested THRC to examine the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
