Former Cavan manager Raymond Galligan has explained his involvement with the Galway footballers is not a goalkeeping role, but with the entire group.
As first reported on the last month, Galligan is part of Pádraic Joyce’s coaching team for the 2026 season. After the 2025 campaign, two-time All-Ireland winner John Divilly departed.
Last July, Galligan stepped away from his role as Cavan boss, citing work commitments. The 2020 All-Star and Ulster SFC-winning captain enjoyed two years with his native county having replaced Mickey Graham.
Speaking as a pundit on , Galligan briefly addressed his current role.
“It is very minimal now at the moment what I am adding to the setup,” he said.
“I am just down a couple of times over the last few weeks doing workshops with the group. I’m just trying to add a very small bit of value to the setup.
“They are a great bunch of lads. They have all the ingredients to hopefully have a good summer.” When asked was he working specifically with goalkeepers, Galligan said it was broader.
“Keepers, the group, the management, the whole lot.”
The Cavan man was in attendance at Galway’s last two away games in Armagh and Kerry, although Joyce was not asked about his presence after either fixture. The four-in-a-row Connacht champions dug out a win in the Athletic Grounds and came back from 12 points down to draw in Tralee.
Several counties have one former inter-county manager as part of their ticket, such as Paddy Tally (Down and Derry) in Mayo, Cian O’Neill (Kildare) in Kerry or Kevin Walsh (Galway) with Cork, but few have two.
Brian Flanagan in Kildare can call upon former Wicklow and Roscommon manager Davy Burke as well as former Donegal and Louth boss Aidan O’Rourke.
