Thane: Construction of Thane’s first cancer treatment facility is in the final stages and it will be operational soon, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday.The facility, which is being built in collaboration with Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), is coming up at the existing 10-storey structure in Saket that was used as a Covid hospital.
The ground-breaking ceremony of the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Cancer Hospital was done by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and seer Deepakbhai Desai in July 2023. As per the agreement, TMC would provide the space for the facility, Tata Memorial Hospital the medical expertise, and NGO JITO would be responsible for managing daily operations.“The building is at an advanced stage of construction and modifications are being carried out to the existing structure to fit the requirements of the cancer hospital,” said civic officials. The new facility will be spread over 97,000 sq ft area and will have 600 beds, along with associated facilities including OPD, and daycare centres. The charges are likely to be on par with Tata Memorial Hospital.
