Tent trader dies of gunshot wound, suicide suspected

Lucknow: A 50-year-old tent house operator and wholesale grocery trader died after sustaining a gunshot wound under suspicious circumstances in Barabanki on Wednesday morning, police said.Police suspect Naveen Jaiswal alias Sanjay of Azad Nagar locality died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself with his licenced pistol. According to family members and police, he allegedly fired a shot into his chest inside his house early morning. Friends told police that Naveen was under stress for quite some time due to business-related issues. At around 6:40 am, he reportedly sent a WhatsApp message reading “Jai Mata Rani” to several contacts. Shortly thereafter, the incident came to light. City outpost in-charge Sanjeev Kumar said police received information around 7:30 am that Naveen shot himself. By the time the police reached the spot, family members already rushed him to Hind Medical College, where doctors declared him dead. “A bullet injury was found on the chest. Prima facie, it appears that he shot himself,” the officer said. The body was sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Inspector Sudhir Singh said preliminary findings suggest that Naveen took the extreme step due to depression and further probe was on. Naveen’s son Aishwarya, who looks after the grocery business, got married on Nov 24, while his daughter secured a bank job about 4 months ago.
