The maximum temperature in the city settled at 15.2°C, remaining well three degrees below seasonal norms. Meteorological officials said the minimum temperature was 4°C below normal, meeting the criteria for a cold wave as defined by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).This marked a further fall from Monday, when the city was already under cold-wave conditions. Earlier, the season’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 3.3°C on Tuesday.Adding to the discomfort, dense fog was observed in and around Chandigarh during the early morning hours, reducing visibility and affecting traffic movement on roads. Meteorologists attributed the severe cold to icy northwesterly winds and clear night skies, which allowed rapid heat loss after sunset. Cold wave conditions are likely to persist, with residents advised to take precautions, especially during late night and early morning hours.Dense fog with cloudy weather is expected to stay for around five days.
