Telangana women’s panel discusses pending stipend, maternity leave for PG doctors

Hyderabad: The Telangana Women’s Commission recently held discussions with the representatives of the TSRDA on pending stipend payments for the 2021 batch of post-graduate candidates who availed maternity leave and completed their extensions in June 2025.The TSRDA members highlighted the lack of maternity leave provisions during the senior resident internship, forcing candidates to either accept a nine-month experience certificate or work without pay to meet the 12-month requirement for assistant professor recruitment. The discussion also brought attention to the lack of maternity leave provisions during senior residency. Currently, candidates who take maternity leave are either issued a nine-month experience certificate or have to work without pay to fulfil the 12-month experience needed to be eligible for the assistant professor post. Earlier this month, the state health department waived the 15,000 readmission fee for PG medical students rejoining colleges after availing maternity leave. The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) directed college principals to allow women students to utilise eligible leave that remained unused at the time of rejoining.
