Hyderabad: Ahead of the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana, enforcement agencies have seized cash and other materials worth 2.02 crore since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force. The seizures were made across the state up to Friday as part of intensified measures to prevent electoral malpractices and ensure a level playing field.Cash seizures accounted for the largest share, with authorities recovering 89.30 lakh during vehicle checks, raids, and surveillance operations. Liquor worth 84.89 lakh was also seized, reflecting continued attempts to distribute alcohol illegally to influence voters during the election period.Officials further reported the confiscation of drugs and narcotics valued at 13.27 lakh. Precious metals, including gold, silver, and other valuables worth 14.69 lakh, were also recovered during enforcement drives.In addition, electronic tablets, vehicles, and other materials valued at 78,500 were seized for alleged violations of election norms. Such items are prohibited under the MCC as they are considered inducements aimed at influencing voters.Election authorities said vigilance, vehicle inspections, and coordination with police and other departments would continue throughout the poll period to ensure strict compliance with election rules and safeguard the integrity of the municipal elections.
