HYDERABAD: Three days after the questioning of former minister and senior BRS MLA T. Harish Rao, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone tapping case, serve a notice to BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Thursday. TOI learnt from sources familiar with the probe that the nine-member SIT, led by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, decided to call KTR for questioning based on the information and statements gathered so far.He will be the second member of BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s family to be questioned about the alleged phone tapping that reportedly took place during the BRS tenure. So far, the police have named only six persons, including the then Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao, as accused, and no political leader has been listed as an accused. Harish Rao was recently called under Section 160 of the Cr.P.C. After the Congress government led by A. Revanth Reddy came to power in December 2023, a criminal case was registered at Panjagutta police station based on a complaint by an additional superintendent of police (Admin) in the SIB. The complaint accused a few officials of the previous dispensation of destroying gadgets immediately after the BRS lost the elections. According to the first chargesheet filed by the investigators, during the BRS tenure, a Special Operation Team (SOT) led by Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Praneet Rao was allegedly created to conduct illegal surveillance on opposition leaders, businessmen, journalists, and others.
