Hyderabad: Telangana police placed N Ramchander Rao, the state BJP chief under house arrest at his Tarnaka residence on Saturday night and later shifted him to Bollarum police station. Rao had intended to visit Banswada to assess the condition of injured party workers, but alleged that the Congress-led govt was suppressing voices supporting the “Hindus of Banswada”.The unrest stemmed from clashes between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress workers in Kamareddy town on Feb 20 and 21 , which resulted in injuries and property damage. A recent incident at a Reliance Smart Bazaar over devotional songs escalated into a communal clash, leading to injuries to two police constables and the arrest of 10–12 individuals. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad condemned the clash as a “planned attack on Hindus” and demanded swift arrests. Kamareddy BJP MLA Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy accused Congress leaders of attempting to illegally sell land belonging to a govt college, further fuelling tensions.Police stepped up deployment in Kamareddy to prevent further violence. Separately, T Raja Singh was taken into preventive custody en route to Banswada, as authorities sought to manage the volatile situation.Tension prevailed in Kamareddy on Sunday as leaders of both the Congress and the BJP clashed. Following the municipal polls, Congress govt adviser Shabbir Ali alleged that the Kamareddy MLA had attempted to encroach on govt college land parcels, sparking a war of words between the MLA and Congress leaders.Venkata Ramana Reddy said he would not hesitate to visit every village in Kamareddy despite alleged threats from Congress leaders. He added that although chief minister Revanth Reddy lost the election from Kamareddy, he would welcome him for the sake of development.Meanwhile, Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay criticised the Congress govt, alleging that it was indulging in vendetta politics. MP Eatala Rajender termed the arrest undemocratic, while Nizamabad MP D Arvind claimed that the Congress govt was attempting to intimidate the majority community for the sake of minority votes.
