Ludhiana: A 17-year-old boy has died by suicide at his family home in Kaunke Kalan on Saturday, in a tragedy police believe was driven by mounting “mental stress”.The youth, identified as Jaskaran Singh, was found by family members shortly after returning home from an outing with his sister, marking another somber entry in the region’s rising mental health crisis. According to police reports, Jaskaran returned to his residence on Saturday afternoon and went straight to his bedroom. Concerns grew when he failed to emerge or respond to family members for an extended period.Upon checking the room, relatives discovered him unresponsive. Despite their attempts to raise the alarm and seek medical intervention, the teenager was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers from the Kaunke Kalan police post and Sadar police station arrived to secure the site. Investigations led by Sadar station house officer (SHO) Surjit Singh revealed a difficult domestic context. The family situation is that Jaskaran’s father currently lives and works abroad, leaving the teenager at home with his mother and sister. Preliminary inquiries suggest Jaskaran had been grappling with significant “mental stress” for several days prior to the incident. Police have recorded statements from the grieving family and initiated an inquest under Section 194 of the BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita). The body has been moved to a govt hospital in Jagraon for a formal post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
