The post-mortem report confirmed that Shikhare died because of internal injuries to his head, following which a case of accidental death was registered with the Ambegaon police, Patil said. The officer said the investigation revealed that Shikhare went out with two friends on Dec 24. The police team traced the duo, who informed the police that in the early hours of Dec 25, the trio went near the back gate of the Bharati Vidyapeeth to eat egg bhurji. “They got into heated arguments with four people at the food cart. One of the victim’s friends fled from there after the accused started beating Shikhare. The victim and another friend also tried escaping. However, the accused chased them and beat them,” the officer said.Patil said in that attempt, Shikhare lost his balance and fell down. He suffered injuries in the incident. Shikhare’s friend then dropped him near the gate of his building in an autorickshaw and left. Shikhare, however, fell unconscious on the road. “We recovered the CCTV footage from the spot and ascertained the identity of Sanas. He was arrested on Thursday on a tip-off,” Patil said. The officer said Shikhare was currently jobless and was undergoing treatment for a disease. “The accused was also jobless,” the officer said.
