CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Speaker M. Appavu on Saturday announced that the state government will present the interim budget on 17 February. Speaking to reporters in Tirunelveli, Appavu said the assembly session will commence on 17 February with Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu presenting the interim budget. The advanced estimates for the upcoming financial year 2026-27 and the revised estimates for 2025-26 will be presented on 20 February. Following the interim budget, there will be a debate on the proposals, after which Thennarasu will give a reply. The duration of the assembly session will be decided after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, to be held following the budget presentation. Appavu added that steps have been taken to ensure that the entire session is telecast live. As Tamil Nadu is set to face assembly elections in April, the incumbent DMK government will present only an interim budget. The full budget will be presented by the new government formed after the elections. Debate on demand for grants will take place only when a general budget is presented.
