The driver of the truck, identified as Prakash Kumar (29) of Mansara village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, has been apprehended. The accident in south-west Delhi, reported to Vasant Kunj police at 3.48 am on Monday, illustrates the risk that unattended or unmarked heavy vehicles pose when parked on highways and flyovers at night as they are nearly invisible to passing traffic. The heavy vehicles are often parked without any warning sign, reflective tape or hazard lights, leaving drivers of other vehicles with little time to react. Experts say that the risk multiplies on flyovers and highways where high speeds, poor lighting and limited shoulder space make parked heavy vehicles death traps. TOI had in Sept flagged the growing menace of such parkings. The police team that reached the spot found a damaged truck and a smashed black compact SUV. Three people were injured and moved to the AIIMS trauma centre. At the hospital, the woman was declared dead. The other two are undergoing treatment. The deceased was identified as Srishti Sisodia of Sector-15, Dwarka. “A preliminary inquiry revealed that the truck was parked near the flyover because its tyre had burst. The car, travelling towards Delhi, rammed into the truck’s rear. The woman was returning from her office with a man who was driving the vehicle,” a senior police officer said. A 47-year-old man who was on foot suffered injuries. Visuals of the car show significant damage to the passenger seat to the left side of the car. The crime team has inspected the spot. The body of the deceased has been shifted to the AIIMS trauma centre mortuary for preservation and post-mortem. A case has been registered at Vasant Kunj South police station under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
