Kolkata: Junior Union minister Sukanta Majumdar led Bengal BJP’s door-to-door poll campaign on Wednesday, starting with the Panihati assembly constituency, home to the victim of the 2024 RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case.“People are welcoming BJP and change is palpable. We have spoken to people in hundreds of households. This assembly has seen its daughter raped and murdered. It will not forgive Trinamool or the sitting MLA here. You will witness change this time,” said Majumdar.Majumdar’s Wednesday campaign was part of BJP’s efforts to reach three crore households with a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Key themes of BJP’s ‘Sampark Abhiyan’ include infiltration and unemployment. BJP has also mobilised its Shakti Kendras.According to party sources, it has carried out 8,500 street corners across the state before Jan and has been preparing for 60 large rallies over the next month.Forty affiliates of the Sangh Parivar have descended on the streets of Bengal to campaign. When RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat visited the state last year, he had indicated consolidation of Hindu voters.In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, BJP won almost 39% of the vote but garnered only 12 seats — six less than its 2019 tally. The party’s margin, however, was down. Sangh affiliates are reportedly working towards bridging the gap.
