Students explore biodiversity at bird sanctuary

Lucknow: Sixty students of PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, SGPGI, visited the Nawabganj bird sanctuary in Unnao on Saturday to learn about biodiversity, wetland conservation and the basics of eco-tourism.The trip was organised by the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board under its Yuva Tourism Initiative. Students walked along designated nature trails and observed birds from watch towers and view sheds. They visited the interpretation centre to learn about local ecosystems and diverse species. Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the aim is to make students active participants in conservation. Additional chief secretary (tourism) Amrit Abhijat said such programmes, by involving students early, seek to nurture environmentally conscious citizens who understand the value of sustainable travel. Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary is an internationally significant wetland and one of the 11 Ramsar sites of Uttar Pradesh. Many migratory birds visit it during winter.
