Hyderabad: Five people, including a student of fashion design, were caught by the Hyderabad-Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) sleuths for allegedly peddling MDMA and OG ganja, at Punjagutta on Sunday. The Punjagutta police said they seized contraband worth 3 lakh from the accused, who had planned to sell 1g of MDMA for 30,000. Assistant commissioner of police (Punjagutta division) Murali Krishna said the accused — K Mahaan Reddy (28), a driver; Mohammed Abdul Nabi, an employee of an e-commerce company; Rupani Mukesh Babu, an IT recruiter; Sriram Ravi Teja, a fashion design student; and Bhupathi Sai Chaitanya, a software employee — were arrested at Nagarjuna Circle based on a tip-off.

“Prime accused Mahaan Reddy, through his sources in Bengaluru, procured the drugs and planned to sell it to consumers in Hyderabad. The five accused were caught when they assembled near a private fashion college at Nagarjuna Circle. Ravi Teja is a student of that college,” inspector Rama Krishna said. Officials said the accused intended to sell the drugs mainly to students. “They were initially drug abusers, who later took to peddling for easy money. Some of them have been associated with a drug peddling network for the last four years,” H-NEW sleuths said. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act.Police found that Mahaan and Mukesh Babu are repeat offenders. It is learnt that Ben, a Nigerian national, supplied drugs to the accused. Police said the accused used the illegally earned money for their vices. Investigators accessed the list of persons who were in touch with the accused based on money received by them.Officials said the accused, including a student of fashion design, intended to sell the drugs mainly to students. They were caught near a college in Punjagutta
