Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday launched the Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety (TNWESafe) project to promote employment and the safety of women in the state. The project was launched at the Global Women Summit held in Chennai.The Rs Rs 5000 crore project is being implemented with Rs 1185 crore financial aid from the World Bank. Under the TNWESafe, entrepreneurial support for working women like incubation, co-working spaces and marketing support will be provided. For safety measures, dedicated emergency helplines and location-based support centres with workplace grievance reporting for harassment and discrimination will be established.Speaking at the summit, Stalin said Tamil Nadu has more women in the workforce than any other state in India. “The DMK govt is implementing several schemes for the safety of women, due to which women feel safe and go out for work,” Stalin said.Speaking about the project, deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “For the first time in India, the World Bank is supporting a state with major financial assistance for the development of women across all age groups.”Earlier, Stalin flagged off women-only pink buses on five routes in Chennai. Stalin also flagged off pink autos driven by women for women, and 50 police vehicles for the safety of women.
