Surat: Two brothers were robbed of Rs 35 lakh from their SUV by four unidentified persons in a heist on a busy road in the Rander area of Surat on Thursday evening, police said.According to police, the victims, Ankit Puniya and Shivratna Puniya, originally from Rajasthan and residing in the Kim area of Surat, are engaged in the construction business and were returning after collecting cash from an angadiya firm in the Mahidharpura area. At around 4pm, as their SUV slowed near Prakash Mobile Store in Ramnagar, a motorcycle rammed into their vehicle from behind, knocking the rider to the ground.Believing it to be an accident, the brothers stopped to help. As passers-by gathered, one of the brothers stepped out and locked the vehicle. In those few crucial moments, two men allegedly approached the SUV, smashed a window and grabbed a bag containing Rs 35 lakh before fleeing.Almost simultaneously, the motorcycle rider and his accomplice disappeared, making it clear to the brothers that the collision was part of a carefully executed plan. They alerted the police.Senior officers, including Rander police inspector R J Chaudhary, joint commissioner of police (crime) Raghvendra Vatsa and deputy commissioner of police (crime) Bhavesh Rojia, rushed to the spot. Multiple teams were formed, and CCTV footage from nearby shops and residential societies is being examined to trace the suspects. Police are investigating whether the victims were acquainted with the accused.
