SSP apologises for Golden Temple detention ‘mistake’

Amritsar: Fazilka senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh has sought forgiveness for the “mistake” committed by the police of detaining two persons from the parikrama (circumambulation) of the Golden Temple without the permission of the management. An Akal Takht secretariat release on Thursday said Gurmeet met the officiating jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, offered his clarification and tendered an apology. The jathedar said the SSP acknowledged that the manner in which five police personnel entered the parikrama of Sri Darbar Sahib recently was inappropriate and should not have occurred. Giani Gargaj said that the Golden Temple, the central religious shrine of the Sikhs, gives the message of universal brotherhood to the world, and its doors are open to all humanity. He said that devotees from across the globe visit the holy shrine with deep reverence and faith.MSID:: 128260650 413 |
