Spurned lover gets 7 years in jail for bid to kill married woman

Hisar: In a nearly four-year-old case of attempted murder, a Hisar court has sentenced a youth to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on him for shooting his married girlfriend after she resisted his attempts to forcibly take her away. The court has, however, acquitted the co-accused.Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Mittal convicted Deepak, a resident of Narnaund, in the case, while acquitting Virendra due to a lack of evidence. The case goes back to November 2021, when the Hansi City police registered an FIR for attempted murder on the complaint of Poonam, a resident of Vikas Nagar in Hansi. In her statement, Poonam said she was married to one Manoj and was previously in a relationship with Deepak. She alleged that Deepak harassed her after she ended the relationship, he began threatening to kill her and her children if she did not go with him. According to the prosecution, on November 4, 2021, Poonam was returning home in an auto-rickshaw with her mother Rambai and when they reached near their locality, Deepak and his accomplice arrived on a motorcycle and tried to abduct her. When she resisted, Deepak allegedly fired at her with a country-made pistol, causing injuries to her right arm below shoulder. The accused then fled from the spot on the motorcycle along with the weapon. Hearing her mother’s cries, Poonam’s husband rushed to the scene and took her to hospital for treatment. During the course of the investigation, police found no evidence against Virendra, who was initially named in the FIR. The court acquitted Virendra, while holding Deepak guilty of the offence.
