Kanpur: Special Role Observer SIR and joint secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, nominated by the Election Commission of India on Friday, held a special meeting with the representatives of various political parties and received feedback regarding the special intensive revision (SIR) programme.Requesting active cooperation in the campaign, he said that the role of booth-level agents is very important in the SIR process. If the name of any ineligible person is included in the draft voter list or the name of any eligible voter is missing, then information about this should be given immediately, he said.
The Special Role observer said that under the transparent system of the Election Commission, a draft voter list had been made available to all political parties, which was also available in the public domain and any citizen can check his name himself. He said that Every vote had special importance in democracy and the objective of the Election Commission was to keep the voter list completely error-free and updated. He also said that the BLA and BLO should work in coordination to ensure timely presence of voters who have been sent notices for mapping purposes.He said that hearing centres had been set up near the polling booths. During the meeting, representatives of political parties did not report any specific errors regarding the draft voter list.Earlier, Special Role observer convened a review meeting with divisional commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian and district election officer Kanpur Nagar and Dehat.District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh informed that according to the published draft voter list, a total of 26,36,113 voters are registered in the 10 assembly constituencies of Kanpur district. Of these, mapping of 2,07,532 voters is to be done, out of which notices have been issued to 82,478 voters.He said that in order to make the hearing of the cases effective, in addition to the 61 assistant electoral registration officers already approved Assembly-wise, 111 new AEROs have been deployed after getting approval from the Election Commission.On this, the Special Roll Observer directed that the voters to whom notices were being issued must be provided the notice at least seven days before the hearing.The district magistrate also presented the updated status of the “Book-a-Call-with-BLO” initiative at the meeting. He said that 9,583 voters have taken advantage of this service so far. The highest number of voters, 1,783, are from the Maharajpur Assembly constituency, and 1,659 are from the Kalyanpur Assembly constituency. He also clarified that in all cases, the BLOs contacted the voters within the stipulated 48-hour time period.He informed us that Booth Day will be held on Jan 25, Jan 31, and Feb 1. On these dates, BLOs would be present at all 3,770 booths in the district and applications for new voters would be received through Form 6.
