Speeding SUV mows down two in Jaipur

Jaipur: Two men died late Monday after a speeding SUV rammed their scooter at Kanta Chowraha in Jhotwara around 11.50pm. Police said the SUV driver fled the scene moments after the accident.A city-wide alert was immediately sounded immediately, and all efforts were being made to identify and arrest the driver, police said. The victims have been identified as 23-year-old Mohit, a native of Neemkathana in Sikar, and 40-year-old Virendra, a resident of Kumher in Bharatpur. Mohit was a student while Virendra worked at a pharmacy, and both used to stay in the city’s Panchyawala Sirsi Road.According to police, the two had ventured out for food when the speeding SUV hit their scooter from behind and flung both of them onto the road. CCTV footage recovered from the scene of the accident shows the SUV rear-ending the two-wheeler and speeding away without stopping. Passersby rushed to aid the men, before personnel from the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit reached the spot and shifted them to the hospital in critical condition. Both of them succumbed to their injuries during treatment.Police said an FIR has been registered and separate teams are working to trace the SUV and identify its driver. Footage from nearby routes is being scanned to track the vehicle’s movement before and after the incident.The bodies of both victims were released to their families after post-mortem.
