Jaguar rams truck on elevated road, teen student dies

NOIDA: A 19-year-old student died and three of her friends were injured after the Jaguar in which they were travelling crashed into a truck while trying to overtake it on the newly opened Bhangel elevated road early on Tuesday.The collision took place around 3.30am in Sector 49 as the car was headed from Bhangel towards Agahpur. Police said the Jaguar attempted to pass the truck, but the driver lost control and rammed the car into the heavy vehicle, leaving all four occupants grievously injured.Additional DCP Shaivya Goyal said the group was returning home from a library. While Falak Ahmed died, her friends Ayush Bhati, Neel Pawar and Ansh — all 18 and residents of Sector 49 — are undergoing treatment.

The four, according to police, are college and school students. It was Neel who was driving the car. Informed by passersby, a police team reached the spot and rushed the injured students to a nearby hospital. Falak’s condition worsened during treatment and doctors declared her dead after some time. The three others were given preliminary treatment and referred to hospitals in Delhi. Police said they were stable but under medical supervision.Families told police the four regularly visited the library to study and were focused on their career. Falak’s family rushed to the hospital and the accident site after being informed, while relatives of the injured teenagers accompanied them to hospitals in Delhi.The truck driver fled with the vehicle after the crash. Police said they had launched a search for him and were examining CCTV footage from cameras on the elevated road and nearby areas.Till late on Tuesday, no written complaint had been filed by the families. “Legal action will follow once a complaint is received,” an officer said.In a preliminary probe, police found that the Jaguar belonged to Neel’s father, Sushant Pawar, a businessman. “It was sheer speed and the attempt to overtake that led to the accident. However, we have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause,” the officer added.
