Ahmedabad: Designed to slow traffic, a speed-breaker at Gheljipura crossroads in Jodhpur instead ended up being flattened by it. After being hammered repeatedly by passing vehicles, the concrete hump crumbled into a gaping pothole — forcing the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to finally step in, remove the remains and level the road. The irony was built right into the asphalt. On the stretch between Mahammadpura Road and LJ College, poor lighting turned the speed-breaker into an obstacle trap rather than a safety feature. With no warning sign in sight, drivers discovered the bump only after hitting it, often at full speed. Repeated impact from heavy vehicles finished the job.Officials said that AMC norms require both signage and proper street lighting whenever a speed-breaker is installed — neither of which made it to this road. Between Jan 2024 and May 2025, AMC approved 339 applications for new speed-breakers, clearing over 250 of them — nearly 75% in the western parts of the city.
