Kanpur: Police nabbed a man for kidnapping a speech-and-hearing-impaired woman and shot him in the leg during exchange of fire in Kannauj’s Thathiya area on Monday afternoon. Police rescued the woman.The woman, resident of a village in Thathiya police station area, was going to the fields along with her mother when the man arrived with a loader and forced her to go with him. When the mother protested, the man pushed her and fled with the woman on the loader. When the woman raised an alarm, villagers tried to stop the loader by placing sticks and bushes on the road, but he drove the loader over them and fled towards Khairnagar. Family members informed police. Late in the evening, SP Binod Kumar and CO Tirwa Kulveer Singh reached Thathiya police station and questioned the woman’s family members before deploying teams to recover the loader and the young woman.Within 10 hours, police traced the loader and found its location near Jankhat. When police cordoned the area, the driver tried to flee towards the jungle and fired at the police team. Police fired in response, and one bullet hit the kidnapper’s leg, after which he fell down. Police caught the driver and rescued the woman. The kidnapper, Lala (40), son of Baburam, resident of Hariyarpur in Sikandra police station area of Kanpur Dehat district, was admitted to govt medical college located in Tirwa. CO Kulveer Singh said the woman was rescued.
