Six Intermediate examinees among 8 injured as car hits autorickshaw in West Champaran

Bettiah: At least six girl students were injured on Monday after a speeding car collided head-on with an autorickshaw near Jaymangalapur on the Lauria-Narkatiaganj main road under Shikarpur police station area in West Champaran district. The students were on their way to appear for the Intermediate examination when the accident occurred, officials said.An injured guardian, Ramnaresh Yadav, said around nine girl students from Mathiya village, accompanied by family members, were travelling in an autorickshaw to their examination centre at Narkatiaganj Central Public School at Hardiya Chowk. Near Jaymangalapur, a high-speed car coming from the opposite direction rammed into the tempo, leaving several passengers seriously injured. The car driver fled the spot immediately after the accident.

Three other students travelling in the autorickshaw sustained minor injuries and, after receiving first aid, were sent to the examination centre with a relative, Yadav said.He added that locals arranged ambulances to shift the injured to Lauria Community Health Centre.Lauria Community Health Centre in-charge Dr Raushan Kumar said eight injured persons were initially admitted, including six girl students, the autorickshaw driver and a guardian. “Initially, three students and the driver were referred. Later, other students also complained of pain and showed signs of unconsciousness, so they were also referred to GMCH,” he said.Shikarpur SHO Jwala Singh said an investigation was underway. “Efforts are being made to trace the car and identify the driver who fled the scene. Legal action will follow,” he said.
