Pune: Wagholi police detained six labourers for attempting to cast their votes in the Zilla Parishad (ZP) elections using fake and fabricated Aadhaar cards at a voting centre, Jogeshwari Vidyalaya in Kesnand, around 1.30pm on Saturday.“We detained all six workers, who hail either from Uttar Pradesh or the Amrawati and Nagpur areas. They do not have their permanent address in Pune city or rural,” said senior inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad of Wagholi police.Police said that the workers came to cast their votes at centre numbers 20 and 21 in the school.“They came to the voting centres with fabricated Aadhaar cards, and they queued up for voting when some voters raised their suspicions and the police personnel at the centre checked their Aadhaar cards. The returning officers as well as the police team confirmed that the Aadhaar cards showing them as local residents were faked,” Gaikwad said. They work at a construction site in Kesnand and stay in the labour camp, police said.“We are investigating who provided them with fake Aadhaar cards, who sent them to vote, and whether they took some money from any of the candidates to vote,” he said.
