Jaisalmer: Led by former MLA Mewa Ram Jain, hundreds of people raised slogans in front of the Barmer district collectorate office Tuesday against alleged deletion of thousands of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

On Monday, Baytoo MLA Harish Chaudhary along with Barmer MP Ummeda Ram Beniwal had led locals in a protest and submitted a memorandum to the district collector. On Tuesday, Jain alleged that under SIR, a large number of voters were removed in several wards of Barmer city, including Vishala, Dudaberi, Malwa and Lakhetali. He claimed that many voters who resided at the same address for years and regularly voted in the past found their names suddenly removed. After the protest, a delegation met the district collector and submitted a memorandum demanding a thorough investigation into all names removed from the voter list and the immediate re-addition of those deleted without valid reason. The delegation also requested that transparency and public information be prioritised during processes like SIR in the future.Protesters also met the sub-divisional officer and registered objections, alleging that in many areas names were deleted by booth level officers without proper notice, despite rules requiring notice and verification. District collector Tina Dabi assured the matter would be seriously investigated.
