Silchar: In a bid to bolster urban security and improve civic service delivery, Silchar Municipal Corporation on Thursday rolled out its first citywide CCTV surveillance project, installing cameras at major junctions and public spaces.The initiative has seen CCTV cameras being installed at 48 strategic locations across the city. The project was formally inaugurated at the civic body’s office by Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty and municipal commissioner Srishti Singh.
“CCTV cameras enhance public confidence, deter anti-social activities and aid the police in maintaining law and order,” Chakraborty said.Commissioner Singh said the surveillance plan covers 73 locations in total, including busy crossings, markets and vulnerable public spaces.
